I was born into a family of gardeners and have been playing in the dirt with my Nana since I was two years old. My lifelong love for flowers stems from the joy they can bring to life. This passion inspired me to create The Prickly Thistle, a floral design business dedicated to turning special moments into unforgettable experiences through the transformative power of flowers. With over a decade of experience in the wedding industry, I recognized the need for more florists who can provide custom designs and personal attention, especially for clients with modest budgets. Our focus is on wedding florals priced under $5,000.

Our ideal clients are those looking for a boutique-style event experience—from intimate gatherings of 2 to lively celebrations of up to 200 guests—who want to enjoy themselves without sweating the small stuff. What sets us apart is our heart. We never want our clients to feel like just another transaction; we built this space because we genuinely love throwing unforgettable parties. That’s why we include things like lighting, uplighting, A/V, table and board games in our rental pricing—no nickel-and-diming here. Most of our clients become long-term friends, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. At the end of the day, it may be a business, but at Work & Leisure, we’re all family. We specialize in the unconventional—leading the pop-up craze in St. Louis with immersive experiences like our winter wonderland Avalanche, summer’s nostalgic Adult Summer Camp, and Valentine’s throwback The Reception. Today, as a married couple, we enjoy rock climbing at Upper Limits-working out together as a team, sampling craft beer together (Dan's favorite STL brewery is Urban Chestnut!), watching the Food Network, enjoying delicious eats smoked or grilled by Dan (his latest creation was Duck with a cranberry orange glaze sauce...absolutely scrumptious!), and spending time with our daughter, Zoe.
Together, we have enjoyed opportunities to travel to Italy, England, Ireland, France, Germany, India, Thailand, China, Australia, Africa on safari, Costa Rica (where we adopted our dog Bonnie from the beach), and Iceland (one of our favorite trips to date). We've been bitten by the travel bug, and love traveling with our daughter for your special events. To date, we captured engagement sessions in Switzerland and weddings across the States in Ohio, Texas, Florida, and internationally in Cancun
